Reconstructed Fashion For Gabriel-e Grippo, a.k.a. GGrippo, a.k.a. designer of trash-a-porter, discarded t-shirts from fashion eras long gone by are the perfect medium from which to form a vivid new line of fashionable tees. Mid-sections from one tee and crewnecks from another are fused into a reconstructed, must-have t-shirt for summer. GGrippo, a native of Argentina who now resides in New York, has been combining his art with fashion since 1985. GGrippo sees fashion as a full integration of art, music, literature, and culture; it is a complete lifestyle. In fact, trash-a-porter was initially created as an art label for a gallery exhibition at White Columns in 1995. The collection was such a hit that GGrippo eventually opened his own store in Soho in 1997. Since then, trash-a-porter has surfaced in a variety of fashion magazines including ID, Interview, Elle, Italian Vogue, George, Jane, and Marie Claire. GGrippo designed Lauryn Hill’s 1999 world tour wardrobe and sells his line in numerous boutiques in New York, Milan, and Tokyo. GGrippo's latest recycled tees are vibrant interpretations of the fashion world’s current obsession with reconstructed vintage clothing. Inspired by the urban street culture of New York and his multicultural surroundings, GGrippo has invented tees that cross the boundaries of art and fashion.
