Panettone
Is it a bread or a cake?
Panettone is a traditional Italian sweet bread, served especially at holidays. Said to have been fashioned by a humble baker's apprentice to impress a prospective marriage partner, Panettone is a specialty of Milan. Filled with raisins and nuts, Panettone is a cross between bread and a cake.
Traditionally, this bread is served on Christmas Eve, Venetian style, with the tall loaf scooped out and filled with vanilla ice cream. It’s served with a hot bittersweet chocolate sauce and cups of chamomile tea.
Of course, Panettone is just as good any other day of the year, and day-old Panettone makes a sublime main ingredient in your favorite bread pudding recipe.

Tiramisu
Scrumptious tiramisu!
Tirami-su, which literally translates to “pick me up”, was initially created in Siena, in the northwestern Italian province of Tuscany. In the 19th Century, Tiramisu became popular among the English intellectuals and artists who lived in Florence. Tiramisu eventually made its way to Treviso, just northwest of Venice, in the northeastern province of Veneto. Now, Treviso is best know for its canals, frescoes, and Tiramisu.
The original recipe called for custard and only recently has Mascarpone cheese been substituted. The basic ingredients are eggs, Mascarpone cheese (a triple creme cheese), ladyfingers, cream, espresso coffee, liquor – such as brandy, marsala, or rum – sugar, and cocoa or shaved chocolate.
