Mudpuppies and Other Aquatic Creatures "Keep it simple" is designer Eric Cline's modus operandi. No need for flowery illustrations and overly elaborate drawings. Even his company's name, Mudpuppy, hearkens back to a time when things were far less complicated - a time when he was simply out catching mudpuppies and drawing animals in the backyard. Even though life may no longer be that simple, Cline has continued to maintain an elementary approach to his t-shirt designs. A graduate of the Pratt Institute, Cline has been designing t-shirts for twelve years. Initially, Cline hand-painted animal designs on t-shirts that he sold on the streets of Manhattan. In July of 1999, Cline launched his Mudpuppy line with a selection of hand-painted baby doll tees, most of which featured funky little animal designs. Soon thereafter, Cline designed his first "bklyn" t-shirt for a friend in California. Since then, Cline's "bklyn" tees have been featured in the New York Times and Time Out New York, and they are flying off the shelves of Lily, a Brooklyn boutique in Cobble Hill. Brooklynites everywhere are clamoring for Cline's one word tees. And so shall the rest of the nation.
