The shortboard is designed to gain speed on a rail while remaining loose for tight turns in the pocket of the wave. A gradual, even rocker allows water a constant route along the bottom curve of the board. This produces the predictable feel of smooth speed. Several different combinations of hull concaves and/or vee are used depending on the types of waves to be ridden. Rails are soft in the nose, blending into a hard edge and becoming more boxy through the tail. The classic longboard has an outline, rocker, and bottom contours designed towards noseriding. The nose is scooped or concaved, gradually lessening to the midsection, then going to a rolled vee which is most pronounced just ahead of the front fin. The preferred fin set up is a single large box. This board's design is based on a mellower era of noseriding and smooth rail to rail turning transitions. Guns are what you ride on the waves of your dreams, so they should work like a dream. A good gun is able to take the energy from powerful surf and translate it into smooth controllable speed. This is achieved with an even rocker flow for predictability; outline with the wide point forward for drive; and a flat bottom which turns to vee through the second half of the board and continues out the tail. The small wave shortboard/grovellor is a shorter, wider, and slightly thicker version of the standard shortboard. It will go faster through the flat sections and carry more speed in small, mushy waves. These boards are very fun to ride. They remind me of those old Italian race cars; stout and boxy.
