Organic Glamour
L.A.’s Christina Herr selects each stone bead in her jewelry collection for its color, shape, and character, and hand-makes every piece using the same techniques employed by ancient artisans. Her line has themes fueled by the inspiration she draws from her study of mythology, history, art, and the science of nature.
According to Herr, the designs she chooses “celebrate all the rituals of life,” and beads are an appropriate medium to continue this ritual because they “are considered the first art form, the first tool to enhance the body and spirit.” With names like “mermaid” and “orbit,” Herr accomplishes a seamless blending of exterior beauty while encouraging inner tranquility through tapping into “the powers of stones that have inspired belief since the early beginnings of mankind.”
If Herr’s mission and approach to jewelry-making sounds more like the creation of art, then you won’t be surprised when you find her work at the American Folk Art Museum in New York. In addition, Herr sells in At Home in New York, in Nest, Six Brady, and Worldwear in San Francisco, Zazu & Violets in Berkeley, and the Holly Matter Gallery in Los Angeles. |
